HOT RED YOUR CHANCE TO SAMPLE COVETED REDS

Unison Vineyard’s much lauded and soon-to-be-released 2012 Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah will be previewed alongside the winery’s full range of reds at Hot Red Hawke’s Bay, the popular annual trade and consumer event that showcases the region’s finest wines in Auckland and Wellington on 11 and 12 June.

The 2012 Syrah was selected as one of the top wine picks for 2015 by NZ Herald’s Viva columnist Jo Burzynska, who described it like this: ‘Svelte and spicy, this classy syrah from Gimblett Gravels is silky and fresh, with notes of red plum and white pepper, and possesses nice concentration.’ Pre-release samples of the wine have also attracted praise from wine luminaries (and Masters of Wine) Jancis Robinson and Andrew Caillard.

Also on show for tasting will be Unison’s stellar 2010 Syrah, which earned itself 96/100 from Bob Campbell and 5 stars from Michael Cooper.

Unison’s winemaker will join colleagues from more than 30 of Hawke’s Bay’s finest vineyards at the event, showcasing more than 200 wines from the region. For the first time in its 12-year history, the show will also offer exclusive Wine Master Classes in both centres.

Hot Red Hawke’s Bay comes to Auckland on Wednesday 10 June at the Maritime Room, Maritime Museum, 175 Quay Street and to Wellington on Thursday 11 June, at Mac’s Function Centre, Taranaki St Wharf. In both centres, trade hours are from 1pm to 4pm, and the doors open to consumers from 6pm to 9pm. The Wine Master Classes run at 1pm (for trade) and 6pm (for consumers) at an additional $10 a head.
