“The Riebke family grow outstanding quality fruit on old, low yielding Barossa Valley vines...something they’ve been doing for six generations. For their faith in what we do and their assistance in the birth and growth of Teusner Wines, we’ll be forever thankful.
With the exception of what I prefer to refer to as the ‘challenging’ 2011 vintage, we’ve been served up a good run of vintages in the Barossa in recent years ranging from the ‘very good’ to the ‘bloody outstanding’. And as we start to taste our way through our 2016 vintage reds, we’re increasingly of the opinion that this vintage is up there with the best of them….with the added bonus that yields for the most part were a touch better than the prior two years which were particularly lean. A rare case of having our cake (rich fruitcake type in the case of Riebkes) and eating it too!
The Riebke tradition continues with the 2016 wine…rich, abundant flavour and serious drinkability whilst also being easy on the pocket. The wine is jam packed with Barossa Shiraz flavours….plums, black fruits and warm spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and 5 spice. There’s a touch of mid palate sweetness, some mocha and black olive and the soft tannins are integrated seamlessly through the mid palate. We’ve taken it easy on the oak to allow the rich dark fruit to take center stage. This is a
plush, vibrant wine of immense generosity and, in my opinion incredible value.
Thanks again to mother nature and the amazing Riebke family!”
