FOLLOW THE LINE 2015
BLEND: 57 % Cinsaut, 26% Grenache, 17 % Syrah
WINEMAKER: Duncan Savage
WINE DISTRICT: Western Cape
Grapes are meticulously sourced from a number of altitude and maritime vineyards around the Western Cape farmed by passionate South Africans. The small hand selected parcels of fruit receive much love and attention through the growing season with each vineyard’s unique terroir contributing in its own special way to the blend.
In the cellar, minimal intervention along with new and old large format French Oak is combined to ensure that the essence of South African terroir is captured in the wines.
TASTING NOTES: by Greg Sherwood MW
Chatting to Duncan Savage about the success of the first release Follow the Line, he almost seemed surprised that this wine had acquired an immediate cult following. Then I did remind him I had predicted this after my very first tasting! The 2015 is again electric, bright ruby red and vibrant in the glass. The nose plush, lush, and very expressive combining an attractive red berry confit ripeness with true old world Languedoc sappy, spicy, stalky, savouriness. There are alluring lifted fruit notes of raspberries, red cherries and exotic quince and yellow peach stones. On the palate, there is such attention to detail with the Cinsaut, Grenache and Syrah blended seamlessly. Like the 2014, the cool 13 Abv and fresh, electric acids are a prominent hallmark shaping this wine. Supremely balanced fruits dance on the tongue... wild forest strawberries, red bramble berries, and red pithy cherries. This wine promises excitement, optimism and energy and does not fail to deliver. This is no frivolous wine mind you, with its serious structure, chalky tannins and sappy spice lingering long on the finish. It's a wine for the new, modern generation of connoisseurs.
