The Chenin Blanc is harvested from a single vineyard on the Biodynamic farm Reyneke, located in the Polkadraai Hills to the west of Stellenbosch. The vineyards are the oldest on the farm being in excess of 50 years old and are located on a combination of decomposed granitic loam on a clay sub-soil. The grapes were whole bunch pressed before light settling and then fermented in a combination of 300l second-fill French oak barrels and a 2500l foudre. The wine was then aged on its lees for 10 months with a further two month ageing in stainless steel tank before bottling.
This wine presents a bright straw hue with a lovely bouquet of fresh mandarins and kumquat followed through by floral notes and honey comb undertones. The palate has a beautiful freshness with a tight linear structure. Layers of citrus fruit, washed stone and spice carries through to a long aromatic finish.
This wine will drink best over the next two to eight years.
The wine pairs well with Asian cuisine, pork dishes and trout.
