Gentle handling and attention to detail are the hallmarks of our winemaking. Our grapes are 100% Gimblett
Gravels from our own vineyard, hand picked and fermented in small open topped vats. The fermenting wines are
hand plunged to maximise gentle tannin extraction and extended post ferment maceration allows us to achieve a
balance between fruit intensity and tannin structure.
The Unison Classic is our vineyard blend. In the spring following harvest we carefully blended the Merlot,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to give the very best vineyard expression – our terroir. Once blended the wine
was returned, initially to small oak barrels, then it finished its maturing in large oak vats. The wine was bottled
after 20 months in oak when flavours and structures showed integration and maturity.
Vintage – 2010
The growing season started with a dry spring followed by a glorious sunny dry summer. When
persistent rain fell in late February bringing disease pressure to Hawkes Bay vineyards our open canopy
and freely hanging bunches ensured our vines had the best natural resistance.
March and April saw a return to fine warm weather allowing the grapes to reach ideal maturity.
With its inviting aromas of dark cherry and plum along with violet and chocolate notes and a touch of spice and
warm leather this red wine is a true expression of classic Unison.
Lively flavours of bright red and black fruits and spice flow across the palate with fine tannins giving depth and
The Unison Classic Blend is well balanced for enjoyment now but has a firm, fine structure that will allow the
wine to develop, with careful cellaring, over the next 5 years.
A truly classic red wine to enjoy with full flavoured dishes and your best friends (if you’re feeling generous!)
