A dry season from the get-go. Winter rain was a bit below average and spring rain was virtually non-existent. Some warmth through to Christmas and into the new year. The saving grace for the vintage came in late January with falls totalling 40mm over a 12 day period, leading into the start of Harvest. They proved invaluable in freshening and balancing the fruit flavours.

Impenetrable colour. Darkly sweet aromatic, like a great dark chocolate, with some vanilla that then leads into a very rich and dense palate with real weight and power. Fruit cake spice and mocha. A sweetness of bouquet is added by the new American oak character. Combines both classic great year Barossa characteristics and traditional Grains style.

Grains of Paradise is our interpretation of the classic Barossa Shiraz style, and is vinified accordingly. Small berry Shiraz bunches are de-stemmed but not crushed and fermented for about 10 days or so at a temperature range of 18íÂ_- 22íÂ_, with careful cap management using both pump overs and some hand plunged small batch lots. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrique before a maturation period on lees, which can vary from 24 to 30 months depending on the vintage.
