With no Gamay available for Timo in 2019, he has branched out and brought in a few new varieties.
This Merlot might be the real surprise packet from his suite of 2019 Yarra wines. As is his way, Timo fermented this as 100% whole bunches - an unusual technique with Merlot, for sure - but Timo does things his own way.
It has worked a treat. The fruit is rich and dark and plummy. The stems lend the structure that is so often missed in Merlot, giving the wine real definition and tension to support the fruit.
It's a great interpretation of Merlot with a little attitude and x-factor.
