Rudera Wines is a boutique winery specialising in the production of chenin blanc, syrah and cabernet sauvignon. The name Rudera is derived from the Latin word rudus, meaning broken fragments of stone. This typifies all our vineyard soils and encapsulates our winemaking philosophy of producing terroir-driven wines. Instead of being bound by the limitations of a single vineyard site, we source from specific vineyards planted in the Elgin, Stellenbosch and Walker Bay areas of the Western Cape. These different soils and sites provide a unique character to suit each variety, and result in distinctive wines of great complexity. Rudera is a family business - a partnership between Johan (Twana) and Elbie van Vuuren and Jasper Raats. Johan puts his years of invaluable business expertise to work, directing the financial, legal and business side of things. Both he and wife, Elbie, assist with marketing and logistics, but can also be found lending a hand when needed in the vineyard or cellar. Jasper Raats is our vigneron and assumes overall responsibility for the vineyards, winemaking, sales and marketing at Rudera. Jasper comes from a winemaking family and is a member of the ninth generation of his family in Africa. Winemaking is in his blood: the first members of his family, on the maternal side, were French Huguenots who emigrated to South Africa from the wine regions of the Loire valley. Jasper has world- wide experience in winemaking and gained international recognition for the highly sought-after sauvignon blanc and pinot noir wines that he produced in New Zealand under the Koru brand. WINES
Rudera Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
5 stars from Decanter Magazine (UK). This wine encapsulates the classic Cabernet sauvignon characteristics like cigar box, pencil shavings with layers of blackberries and blueberries, coffee and mocha. The tannin structure should last 15 years. A "sure thing" with an aged rib-eye steak. View Full Details

Rudera Chenin Blanc 2008
This is one of the Cape’s top chenin blancs, which has a loyal international following (where it is known as De Tradisie (the tradition) chenin blanc). The wine undergoes fermentation in seasoned barrels resulting in a style that is elegant, bone-dry and refreshing, almost Burgundian in texture and mouth-feel. View Full Details

Rudera Robusto Chenin Blanc 2007
As the name indicates, this is a robust and full-bodied chenin blanc, picked very ripe, barrel-fermented (with a fair percentage new oak) and left to finish with an almost off-dry residual sugar. This wine is building a cult following! View Full Details
