NEWTON JOHNSON Newton Johnson Winery is owned and managed by the Johnson family. It is near Hermanus, only an hour away from Cape Town and a popular tourist destination, famous for some of the most spectacular land-based whale watching in the world. The farm is situated some five km from the Atlantic Ocean at the top of the Hemel en Aarde Valley, a bit of heaven on earth, as its name implies. It is located in the cool-climate Walker Bay appellation which is rapidly becoming recognised as the home to the finest pinot noir and some of the finest chardonnay in South Africa. The see-breezed vineyards. close to the Southern tip of Africa and 200m above sea level, have recently been expanded by 20ha of new plantings. Proprietor Dave Johnson, one of a small group of Cape Wine Masters, has 30 years experience in the wine industry and he is partnered by his equally wine and food focussed wife Felicity, who was responsible for the contemporay design of the house and cellar and is an integral part of the business. Both sons are involved in the business: Gordon is the winemaker with 11 vintages behind him in California, New Zealand, Bordeaux and the Cape. Bevan is in charge of exports and marketing. During harvest, the whole family can be observed getting stuck in. Enjoy! www.newtonjohnson.com WINES
